R.I.P. - Wayne Allwine :'0(

mac's, cat, mascot, mac
It's a sad day for us in the furry fandom today, as I announce that Wayne Allwine, the man who has done the voice of Mickey Mouse for over 30 years has died after complications of diabetes. He was 62 years old. Allwine started his career in the mail room at Disney, and eventually worked alongside Jimmy MacDonald, the studio's head sound effects person and who previously provided Mickey's voice after Walt Disney's departure, providing effects for many Disney films. He eventually moved on from the sound effects department to provide the falsetto voice for Disney's biggest star, Mickey Mouse.

Allwine really helped to shape Mickey as a true cartoon star and a pop culture icon. Not only did he provide Mickey's voice in Disney's films, TV shows, the Disney theme parks and in the Disney On Ice shows, but he gave the mouse "a heart and soul as well", according to Roy E. Disney. His voice can be heard in such films as "Mickey's Christmas Carol", "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?", "The Prince and the Pauper", "Runaway Brain", and even a brief cameo in "A Goofy Movie". He can also be heard in such TV series as "Mickey Mouse Works", "House of Mouse" and "Mickey Mouse Clubhouse", which currently airs on Playhouse Disney.

Ever since Wayne joined Disney, he has devoted almost his entire career as the voice of Mickey Mouse, providing his voice on pretty much any project that the character was featured in. He is survived by his wife, Russi Taylor, another famous voice actor who provides the voice of Minnie, as well as additional voices on such shows as "The Simpsons", and by five children from a previous marriage. He will always hold a special place in the cartoons we watch, the video games that we play, the times of when we visit Disney's theme parks, and in our lives in general. He has by far done the best job of providing Mickey's voice, and we shall never forget him. He will be dearly missed by cartoon fans and furries the world over. May God bless you Wayne and may the sound of your voice live on for years to come.

What Carnival Ride Are You?

stolen from [info]semjay

You Are a Log Ride
You prefer to live a fairly calm, relaxed life... with a few surprises thrown in.
You don't tend to get yourself worked up easily. You can roll with what life throws at you.
In relationships, you are steady and solid. You maintain a pretty broad perspective on what's going on.
That's not to say you can't get swept away. You're emotions run as deep as anyone else's.

Your life seems like it has been remarkably easy so far. But that's due to how you manage it.
You never stretch yourself too thinly, and you think out your decisions carefully.
Taking the time to enjoy each day is important to you, and you don't let your emotions rule you.
You stay the course and do what's right... knowing it will all work out in the end.

At your best, you are tolerant and understanding of other people's quirks.
You take "go with the flow" to the extreme. Even if you don't like where you're going.
At your worst, you repress your feelings and end up being a little tightly wound.
You definitely have some explosive emotions that occasionally come to the surface!

I've seen this meme a lot lately, so here goes:

This is your chance to get to know me better.

Ask me a question about anything you want...love, life, hobbies, whatever. All answers will be posted in the comments section of this entry unless you leave me an email address and ask me to respond privately to the question. This is totally open, and pretty much everything is fair game.

Comments not screened. But don't let that discourage you!

OMG! I MADE THE NEWS!

I took my suit to the Simcoe Rotary Friendship Festival at the beginning of August. Well, I was actually just in the parade and I tried to get as many photo ops as I possibly could. This one here was taken before the parade when I visited some people from a canine college. Most of the dogs were afraid of me, but the one here seemed to cooperate for the photo. Anyways, here I am.

I'm going to be at another event on August 30th (no, not MFM my silly furry friends although I did want to go this year), so there's another chance for my character's exposure and maybe another news photo. Who knows? Later guys!

Anthrocon 2008 - Post-Con Report

I just got back from AC on Sunday, and I must say I have had a wonderful time. I met and hung out with quite a few of the online furries that I have been reading about and occasionally talk to, despite my extreme shyness, plus I met some old friends from the Islington Fur Meet that KI Wind had put on about a couple weeks back. I got to do a fair amount of suiting and got LOTS of hugs and photo ops! Even the kids liked me. I was also in the fursuit parade, though it really was a last minute decision for me. I went to the dances every night and I tried to dance my tail off to the best of my ability, despite the fact that I had to take some frequent breaks. I also hung out in the artists’ alley for the first half of Friday and only for about a few hours on Saturday and Sunday. I didn’t really make any money at my table, but I did get one badge commission! :0)

Thursday and Saturday were pretty hectic. On Thursday, I didn’t get to suit until about the late afternoon/early evening when I finally got into my hotel room. I didn’t really want to hang out in the artists’ alley on Saturday; because not only wouldn’t anyone want to buy from me, but I had other things planned that day, including the fursuit parade. Aside from that, I also helped out with the taping of [info]bucktowntiger ’s show of his piano-playing skills in fursuit for [info]film2edit, so there’s another thing to add to my resume when I graduate. :0) I am thinking of going back next year but that all depends on what’s happening with me next year.

One sad thing about the con is that I had lost BOTH of my two self-drawn badges, especially the one I use for when I go to special events and such. The closest I have of these badges are scans of the originals.

EDIT: The badges were found and now reunited with me! :0)
But anyways, back on track…

Now for concluding thoughts: well, despite my lack of going to the special events and seminars and other stuff, I did get my first taste of a furry convention. What I would like to improve on for next year is that I definitely need to suit more. I don’t think the artists’ alley is the place for me, especially if nobody is interested in my art. Fursuiting is more my thing, despite the fact that I am an established mascot performer and I get more response from that as opposed to artwork. I also want to try and be more social at the con. I get very shy went it comes to hanging out with people and engaging in conversation.

Some side notes: there was a record store in Pittsburgh that my roommate was talking about that I wanted to go to, but I couldn’t find the place. Oh well, maybe next year or something I’ll find it. Also, I was really looking forward to doing a dingo photo shoot that [info]durangodingo mentioned earlier, but it never happened. Oh well, maybe next year.

All in all, I have pretty much enjoyed myself at AC. It was nice to see a lot of people there and at the same time, romp around as an adorable burgundy dingo. Hopefully next year will be a better one; now to worry about the rest of my summer vacation. Dingo out!

Seeing that AC will be my first con, my answers to this are quite different from others. Here goes:

Where will you be most of the time during the days?
Gee, I don't really know. Like I said, this is my first con, so I guess I'll be all over the place. I'm definitely thinking of being in the artist alley to work on some stuff but I will be doing a LOT of suiting at the con. Heck, I'll even go in the fursuit parade! :0D

Where are you staying?
I will be staying at the Westin Hotel

Who will you be with?
I'm going to the con alone, but will probably be seeing [info]strykercoyote and [info]cornwalldragon there as well (haven't seen you guys in a while) :0)

Do you do free art?
Absolutely not!

Do you do trades?
Definitely

Do you do commissions?
I've never really gotten paid for my artwork, but if you wanna pay me, sure! ;0)

Do you do badges?
Not so often, but I guess I can do them. ;0)

Do you have prints/CDs?
No, but I'm thinking of doing some sort of a "From The Vaults" anthology showcasing some of my earlier work and some unreleased pieces, including pre-Danny Dingo art. :0)

What is your gender?
Male

How old are you?
19 (20 in July)

Can I touch you?
I prefer not to be touched. I'm a very private person a lot of times. A simple handshake is good enough!

Can I talk to you?
I'm a very shy person and would enjoy a nice conversation. But if I'm in suit, I will not speak a word! As a mascot performer myself, I prefer communicating in pantomime when suiting. :0)

Can I take pictures/video of you?
Go right ahead, especially when I'm in suit! Just don't take any when I don't have my head on or anything or if I'm all sweaty out of suit. It ruins the magic of my character being real and I hate looking at myself in pictures when I'm only half-dressed (in costume that is)! ;0)

Can I cuddle with you?
Hmm, I dunno about that one. If I find it discomforting, please don't creep me out about it!

I think that's pretty much it.

Aside from that, I'm trying to hook up my character with a children's entertainment company in Toronto. They will be attending a fund raising event this Saturday, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to make it or not.

In other fursuit news, I recently took Danny Dingo out to my local Tim Horton's on Camp Day and I guess I can say that it was a semi-enjoyable experience. I was out on the sidewalk trying to get people to come to the car wash that they were having as well as waiting at the drive-thru window for people to make donations and stuff, plus I did a little bit of walking around in the parking lot. I'll see if I can get pictures and if I can, I'll be sure to post them.

Well, this seems a bit long, but I just want to let ya'll know what to expect of me at AC. Thank you very much and I hope to see you all real soon! :0)

I was at last Sunday's Lady Lynx game, and there were some camera people there. I couldn't wear the mascot costume throughout the game, but luckily I was able to put it on after the first game to sign autographs and stuff. :0)

Also luckily, I got to be on Gerry Dee's Sports Reporter segment as the Lynxster! Check out the video below. I'm at around the two minute mark signing soccer balls! YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY! :0P

And also, AC is right around the corner! Looking forward to seeing a LOT of you there! I'm sooooooooooo excited! <3 <3 X0D

See ya'll round!

Voice-O-Graph records wanted! :0D

  • May. 31st, 2008 at 8:04 PM
mac's, cat, mascot, mac
Hey everybody!

I recently sent in a transfer that I did of a Voice-O-Graph record I found at a thrift store just over a year ago to the Tape Findings Found Sound Archive and I learned some real interesting facts about these custom-cut records. Apparently, these records were cut in little booths where someone can record their voice for 65 seconds and then mail it out or whatever they wanted to do with it. Pictures of a Voice-O-Graph booth can be found here. And that's what gave me the idea for a little project that I'm hoping to do in the near future.

I want to release a compilation CD of Voice-O-Graph records as sort of a salute to this marvel in custom audio recording. I think it would be an excellent collection for especially found sound enthusiasts and practically anyone who enjoys listening to homemade recordings. If you have any that you are willing to share with me for this little project or if you know of anyone who may have some, please let me know by e-mailing me at pollick529(at)yahoo(dot)ca, or if you have an IM program like MSN or Yahoo Messenger, please feel free to add me at gamefan50(at)hotmail(dot)com (don't worry, I'll try to give you some sort of credit). :0)

Please replace "at" and "dot" with their respective symbols. :0)

I totally appreciate your support and very much hope for this project to become a reality! :0D I really enjoy listening to homemade recordings and I've always wanted to do a compilation album of them or a similar project. Once again, I really appreciate your support! Hope to hear from some of you soon! ;0)

Yeah, so yesterday, May 25th was the Purina Walk For Dog Guides at T.B. McQuestin Park in Hamilton, which also marked my first public appearance in my new suit! :0)

First off, it wasn't as exciting as I expected it to be, but at least I did get a few responses from people about the suit. Some people thought that I was a mouse. My costume doesn't look anything like a mouse. But, I did show them my self-drawn badge to let people know who I was. There was one time while I was walking around the track when this random guy pulled my tail, took a picture of me with his cell phone and then gave me $20! :0O I LOVE BEING A FURSUITER! :0D

Anyways, I did have fun and at least I got a chance to show off my new fursuit. I will be making another appearance as Danny Dingo at the Tim Horton's Camp Day Fun Fair and hopefully Camp Day that's just downtown Hagersville. :0)

As for the Toronto Lynx, well let me tell ya, the first home game was unbelievable. It was a school day and as usual kids kept beating on me, wanted me to give them hugs and pose for pictures and shit like that. What I found really interesting that day was this beautiful young girl who was acting like she was my handler or my girlfriend or something like that. It felt romantic. :0P But then, when I was finally going back to change these kids all ganged up on me and I couldn't get out. D0:> I was literally knocked down to the floor. But eventually I escaped, don't know how many kids I knocked over, if any and changed out of the suit. It's tough being a team mascot. ;0)

Well, that's a lot of words. I will be debuting a parody of the "Monster Mash" on Fur Affinity within the next couple days or so. I started it back in 2006, but didn't finish it until recently, so watch out for that. Anyways, see ya'll round! ;0D

VHS and Mini DV to DVD Conversions

  • May. 17th, 2008 at 4:14 PM
mac's, cat, mascot, mac
Do you have any old home movies on VHS that are collecting dust or have any Mini DV tapes lying around but have no way of transferring them to your computer? Well, maybe I can help. I can also do foreign VHS conversions (NTSC, PAL and SECAM) to DVD as well if your VCR can't play them for a VERY affordable price.

PRICES:
$10 for the first tape transferred
$5 every additional tape transferred

Prices are in Canadian Dollars. I accept money orders (not the green ones, Americans please use the pink money orders for payment) or WELL HIDDEN CASH!

So, if you have any old tapes lying around that you would like transferred to DVD, please send me a note rather than replying to this post. Perhaps this will help me raise money for fursuit characters as well as for con trips. Just let me know and I will be more than happy to serve you. Thanks! :0)

You can also e-mail me: pollick529(at)yahoo(dot)ca OR gamefan50(at)hotmail(dot)com.

Please replace "at" and "dot" with their respective symbols. Thanks again!

Hey everyone! Been a while since I posted anything, but here goes.

If you missed last week's episode of the Funday Pawpet Show (March 16, 2008 to be exact), you would have gotten a sneak peek at my new fursuit of Danny Dingo. Well, for those of you who couldn't download that episode in time, here it is right now:

Everything has been redone except for his tail. That part I kept.

Foam head base and eyes by Arend Studios. Body by Noble Productions. Tail by Lynne Hassell. Everything else by E.R. Productions Inc. Enjoy!

BTW, hope to see ya'll at AC this upcoming June! **licks/barks happily** :0D

My hopes for the new year...

Hey you guys!

It has been a while since I posted anything here and I just wanted to give you a little heads up of what I have been doing lately and what I hope for 2008.

My 2007 in review:

-Got a hookup as a freelance mascot performer for 1-800-MASCOTS (I have really only done one gig for them so far)
-Worked for the Toronto Lynx Soccer club as their mascot, "The Lynxster"
-Went to see "We Will Rock You" with my mother (I bought her tickets as a Mother's Day gift and the show was actually pretty damn good)
-Went to see "Weird Al" Yankovic at Massey Hall
-Met two fursuiters in person, and went Fursuit Bowling with them
-Made a couple appearances as Danny Dingo at local community events
-Got my own radio show on my college station
-Made a music video of one of my favourite songs which actually got played on the Funday Pawpet Show (you can see it in my profile)
-Got a high-quality turntable so I can transfer my LPs to my computer (It looks like I need to replace the stylus for it; the records skip at times when they're not supposed to)
-Started on the reconstruction of my fursuit, speaking of which I just got the fur for last week

What I hope for 2008:

-Start my own media production service (LP to CD transfers, foreign video conversions, VHS to DVD, etc.)
-Attend more fur meets, especially ones in the GTA, Hamilton and even the Niagara Region, if any
-Attend Anthrocon in June (I've already made my reservation at the Westin Hotel)
-Get a fursuit version of Roxy Raccoon done
-Try to go on some fursuit outings with Stryker and Cornwall other than bowling
-Remake the "Tossin' and Turnin'" video when my new suit is done
-Do more gigs for 1-800-MASCOTS
-Hopefully attend either MFM or MFF (depends on funding and how my school time is affected; I might not be able to go until 2009)
-Hopefully do some custom art for people, if they commission me
-Probably return to my job with the Toronto Lynx this summer, I'll have to see how that goes, I'm hoping it will be better than last year
-Appear on the FPS as a subservient (maybe)

I think that's pretty much all I can think of right now. I guess my Christmas break went alright, to say in the least. I didn't get the best of Christmas presents, but I'm quite happy with a lot of the ones I got this year. I'm trying to see how I can order that stylus I want from LP Gear without having to use a credit card. I'm also trying to see when I can bring down the fur to [info]noble_pro so he can make the body for Danny's makeover.

As far as schooling goes, it looks like I'm going to have a busy semester yet again, but I don't really know yet. I already have one assignment for TV that is due in a week and a half or so.

Well, that's pretty much it for now. I'm hoping this will be a good year for me. Talk to ya'll soon! :0P

Woof...an update!

Howdy ya'll!

Things have been pretty dull around here, I know. But time for another LJ break.

First of all, I feel I have accomplished a lot in the past week. Boy, does time ever fly. I just finished up a film shoot for our first 5-minute film (we gotta do 2 this semester; we're doin' the second one next week). I'm the sound recordist for both films, so I find that pretty cool, considering I would like to specialize in audio engineering.

As well as for my furry side, I've been trying to contact Stryker Coyote for the past couple days about if he has any fursuiting events planned for this weekend, but I never heard back from him. Grrr! I'd really love to go fursuit bowling again sometime :0P. I've been doing a lot of drawing lately as well.

Also, I'm planning to do an all furry request episode of my oldies radio show, "Jukebox Explosion" sometime in the near future. Basically, I play anything pre-1990, just to give you an idea. If you'd like to listen to my show, please visit this page and click "Jukebox Explosion". You may hear a little bit of the show before mine, but you can just skim past it.

Send your song requests to either pollick529@yahoo.ca or gamefan50@hotmail.com.

See ya round, folks!

Yips and woofs to all,
-Dingo

What's going on with me right now....

  • Oct. 30th, 2007 at 6:03 PM
mac's, cat, mascot, mac
I have been so busy for the past week and a bit. I had so many writing assignments for my classes, including a 5 minute script for Film Class, an audio commercial for Prod Tech, and probably the worst of all things that has happened so far this week, I had to direct a mobile for TV. I still have to do a damn director's report for that.

On a good note, I think my workload is starting to calm down a bit, since I plan to go fursuit bowling again with Stryker and Cornwall in a couple weeks or so. We'll see how it all goes. See ya round!

Yips and woofs,
Danny Dingo

Allow me to introduce myself...

Hello fellow Livejournal users. This is Danny Dingo.

I never thought of having a Livejournal account, but after seeing so many furries use it, I might as well join in.

Anyway, I first discovered the furry fandom back in 2005, while searching for pictures of a white fox mascot costume. Then this one name came up, "White Fox Studios", now Arend Studios, and thought maybe I should check it out. It was from here that I first got introduced to the idea of animal mascot costumes being called fursuits, and people dressing in them at various conventions, but that wasn't until a little later during my first discoveries of the furry fandom.

It wasn't until a year later that I formed my first fursonna, Danny Dingo. Originally created as a Halloween costume, I thought this would be a good start for me to own an elaborate costume. The body was made from an old Halloween costume pattern that I found at Len's Mill Store. The costume looks pretty crude now, but I am in the process of updating it to wear at Anthrocon next year (2008), speaking of which I just sent in my registration about a week and a half ago. I just sent in the other half of the payment of my head base for the new version of my fursuit but I probably won't be furring it until I go home for Christmas. My aim for this one is to help match the colour of my tail as well as keeping it as close to my drawings as possible, as the fur I used previously was WAY darker than my tail. Anyway, here's some pics (click to enlarge):

Tail pic courtesy of Lynne Hassell.

Aside from that, I am also a furry artist. I love to draw cartoon characters. I've been creating my own ever since I was 6. I have an art site, of which you can look at. It's not deviantART, but this one is easier to categorize. You can see it here. I also have an account on Fur Affinity. I'm thinking of doing custom art commissions sometime soon in order to help me raise funds for a fursuit of Roxy Raccoon, another one of my characters, as well as for trips to cons and stuff, so keep an eye out for that.

Aside from furry fandom, I am currently a second year Broadcasting student at Niagara College in Welland, Ontario, Canada. I host a weekly oldies radio show on my college radio station called "Jukebox Explosion". More info, including playlists of previous shows, are listed on my MySpace page. I'm thinking of doing a MySpace page for my fursonna sometime soon as well.

As for my outings in fursuit, on occassion, I like to go fursuit bowling with my friends Stryker Coyote and Cornwall the Dragon at Planet Bowl in Toronto. I'm thinking of doing it again sometime within the first three weeks of November, just as soon as I get some school work out of the way, so if you see me there, be sure to give me a shout. I'm also hoping to do some fursuit mini-putt as well with Stryker and Cornwall. I'm also hoping to appear as a subservient on the Funday PawPet Show sometime in the near future, probably not until next summer, but we'll see. I have also done a couple community appearances in suit as well.

I know this seems a bit long, but I just wanted to introduce myself to the Livejournal community, and hopefully make a few friends here. I don't know when my next post will be, but keep tuning in for new entries of my adventures. Ciao!

Yips and woofs,
-Danny Dingo
